Jaguar readies new small SUV

Following on from the Los Angeles Auto Show reveal of its electric SUV I-Pace Concept (above), Jaguar is also well in progress to launch a new smaller regular SUV towards the end of the year, writes Brian Byrne.

The smaller car — possibly to be called the E-Pace — will target the likes of Audi/s Q3 and Mercedes-Benz GLA, both of which have proved the market for small premium SUVs.

The push for another SUV was accelerated by the big success of the F-Pace, now worth close on a third of Jaguar’s total sales.

The likely powertrains are from the Ingenium petrol and diesel 4-cylinder units developed by Jaguar Land Rover in recent years.

Meanwhile, the I-Pace will become a production model chasing the Tesla Model X as well as upcoming electric SUVs from Audi and others in 2018.

It is claimed to offer 350kms in range and will feature 400hp from a pair of electric motors.
