Hybrids boost Toyota Europe sales

Toyota’s sales of hybrid vehicles in Europe rose by 41pc in 2016, writes Brian Byrne.

Between its Toyota and Lexus brand models, the carmaker offers 15 hybrid options, and the battery-assist cars now represent almost a third of the 928,500 vehicles the company sold in Europe last year.

Toyota achieved a total market share of 4.7pc in Europe in 2016, and the 6pc increase in total units sold outperformed the overall European market.

An interesting extract from the figures is that hybrids account for 43pc of all the company’s car sales in western Europe, while eastern Europe’s proportion is just 5pc hybrid.

Toyota’s top seller is the Yaris, followed by Auris and RAV4, the sequence in hybrids is the same.
